A Valley Carved By Rushing Waters

The Lohit River valley is the primary geographical feature defining Hayuliang. Carved by steep hillsides, deep gorges and lush rainforest vegetation, the valley sits at approximately 750 meters above sea level. This moderate altitude gives it a mild climate, bridging the subtropical lower plains of Assam with the alpine ridges of Anjaw district.

The river valley shapes local agricultural patterns, mountain pathways and road building. It remains a dynamic landscape where weather, monsoons and rocky mountain walls create an ever-changing environment.

The Meeting Of Two Mountain Rivers

Just below Hayuliang town sits the spectacular confluence of the Lohit and Dalai rivers. The Dalai River joins the Lohit in a rushing meeting of clear, turquoise waters that serves as one of Anjaw district's most iconic visual landmarks.

This confluence is more than a scenic overlook; it represents a major cultural point of contact for the Mishmi community who have populated the surrounding river beds and forest margins for generations. The view from above offers a stunning perspective of river currents, white sand banks and towering evergreen slopes.

The Place Of Respite

Hayuliang town is the administrative and commercial focal point of Anjaw's western half. Historically named the "place of respite" in the local dialect, it has long served as a crucial resting station for travelers navigating the difficult routes between the plains of Tezu and the high passes of Walong and Kibithu.

The town centers around a compact market square where local homestay owners, drivers, administrative officials and farmers exchange goods, share travel updates and coordinate transport links.

The Administrative Extension

Located just a few kilometers west of Hayuliang, the Khupa village stretch forms the town's twin urban extension. Khupa houses the area's main helipad, public works compounds, agricultural nurseries and major residential sectors.

Together, Hayuliang and Khupa operate as a cohesive urban unit, distributing administrative weight and commercial services along the mountain highway. Khupa offers a flatter topography, allowing the twin stretch to expand with critical public infrastructure.
